A Fall Weekend in Ormond Beach: What to Do and Where to Go

Fall is the sweet spot of the Ormond Beach year: the summer rush and heat ease off, the water stays warm, and the outdoor calendar fills up. Buyers touring Tomoka Oaks in autumn quickly find out how much of that life sits within a few minutes of the neighborhood. Here is a weekend plan built from verified local favorites.

Start a morning at the farmers market

The Ormond Beach Farmers Market runs every Thursday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Hall Plaza (22 S Beach St), in front of City Hall and the Ormond Beach Regional Library. Organized by Ormond Beach MainStreet since 2012, it brings together local produce, baked goods, honey, plants, crafts, and prepared food. It is a reliable, low-key way to stock a kitchen, and the kind of weekly ritual that makes a neighborhood feel like home.

Drive the Ormond Scenic Loop & Trail

The Ormond Scenic Loop & Trail is a designated Florida Scenic Highway and National Scenic Byway that runs roughly 36 miles along the Halifax River and the Intracoastal Waterway, linking A1A, John Anderson Drive, Old Dixie Highway, and North Beach Street. It passes state parks, beaches, and The Casements along the way, with no entrance fee. It makes a beautiful drive, and an even better bicycle or kayak outing on a cool fall morning.

Paddle and explore Tomoka State Park

Tomoka State Park sits right at the top of the neighborhood at 2099 N Beach St. The roughly 2,000-acre park where the Tomoka River meets the Halifax River is popular for canoeing and kayaking, with rentals available at The Tomoka Outpost, plus fishing, a boat ramp, and a nature trail through a hardwood hammock. Note that there is no swimming inside the park; the ocean beach is just a few minutes away.

An evening at Rockefeller Gardens

Rockefeller Gardens is a free riverfront park at 25 Riverside Dr with a large grassy lawn, a waterfront walk, fishing, and benches facing the Halifax River. It is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and it hosts community events through the fall, including the Movies on the Halifax series. If you are in town on a Saturday morning, Yoga in the Park runs at 9 a.m. through The Casements, the nearby former winter home of John D. Rockefeller.

Beach time and playgrounds

  • Andy Romano Beachfront Park at 839 S Atlantic Ave offers beach access with parking, showers, and a splash pad for kids.
  • Magic Forest Playground at 440 N Nova Rd is a big, shaded playground near the neighborhood in Ormond Beach.
  • Central Park at 601 Fleming Ave and Riverbend Nature Park at 755 Airport Rd add more open space close to Tomoka Oaks.
  • The Environmental Discovery Center at 601 Division Ave is a hands-on nature center run by the city, popular with families.

Why fall is a great time to look

Fall is when people actually experience Florida living: dinners on the lanai, evenings by the pool, and weekends that plan themselves around the river and the beach. A Tomoka Oaks home like 101 N Saint Andrews Dr puts all of that within a five-to-ten minute drive, with its own screened pool and travertine deck for the in-between hours. If you are coming to Ormond Beach to look at homes, plan a preview weekend around these stops and you will understand the neighborhood in a way listings photos cannot show. Confirm market hours, park schedules, and event dates with the Ormond Beach MainStreet and the city of Ormond Beach community events calendar before you go.
